Dody Building

The Dody Building sits at the center of the block facing the Henry County Courthouse in downtown Clinton. A corrugated metal slipcover installed in the 1970s obscured the historic façade and compromised its integrity. When the Clinton Square Historic District was nominated to the National Register in 2007 the building was evaluated as non-contributing. In 2017 the owner removed the slipcover to reveal the historic façade. Although the original windows and sheet metal cornice had been removed and the storefront was modernized, the brick and limestone façade clearly retains its two-part commercial block form and the distinctive, large arched window openings at the second story. Rosin Preservation prepared the Part 1 federal historic tax credit application to officially change the status of the building to contributing. The building is now a certified historic structure and the owners are preparing to apply for state and federal historic tax credits to support a full historic rehabilitation of the property.
